An Ontario teenager who worked as a cleaner at a long-term care home and died after being diagnosed with COVID-19 was a Syrian refugee who moved to Canada with his family in 2016, according to the CEO of Paramount Fine Foods, Mohamad Fakih. Yassin Dabeh, 19, of London, Ont., worked at Middlesex Terrace, a long-term care home in nearby Delaware, Ont.

In making the announcement in November, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino reiterated that Canada continues to support the people of Hong Kong and to stand up for democracy and human rights. There is, nonetheless, an abiding fear that hangs over many of the Hong Kong expats. Asylum seekers approached by the Star were reluctant to share details of their escapes. Le Courrier – La région de Clare accueille une famille syrienne à Meteghan
Une nouvelle famille syrienne est déménagée à Meteghan le 3 janvier dernier. Il s’agit de la famille Almnajer qui comprend six enfants et leurs parents, Eyad (père) et Samaher Mohammed (mère). Un comité local était à l’œuvre depuis quatre ans pour organiser la venue d’une famille de réfugiés de la Syrie. Le processus a été extrêmement long, selon Nicole Pothier, un des membres du groupe local. Le groupe a recueilli les fonds nécessaires pour appuyer la famille pendant un an et a trouvé une maison où ils peuvent loger à Meteghan.

Amr Kabesh and some of his friends are on a mission to help someone in another part of the world find refuge in Canada. After hearing about Sarah Hegazi, Kabesh connected with Rainbow Refugee, a Vancouver-based organization that helps people fleeing persecution due to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or HIV status. He and friends formed a fundraising and support circle which they named Home and Haven.
Toronto Star – Multicultural Association Demands Voice in Perth County
For years, the Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron has worked in Perth County to support newcomers and their participation in civic life, integrating newcomers into society, assisting them with finding employment and encouraging them to find a voice. “Without fail, each newcomer has expressed their challenges with integrating into the county due to overwhelming experiences of racism and discrimination,” said Musa. Musa said the need for a committee on diversity and inclusivity is beyond just a need to create a policy.
