Chronicle Herald – Halifax Immigration Lawyer Suggests ‘Easy Fix’ to Attract Newcomers and Boost Economy

Out of the 794 invitations sent out by the province to immigrant entrepreneurs all over the world, only 14 of them ended up obtaining their permanent residency in Nova Scotia, projecting a lower than two per cent turnout rate. Since 2017, the province has sent out over 200 invitations annually to prospective immigrants asking them to bring their investment or business to Nova Scotia. In return, the province would endorse the candidate on their permanent residency application under the entrepreneurship immigration program. However, the rigid requirement has stopped many from coming through the door.

CBC News – Lives on Hold, Potential Immigrants Devastated by Pandemic Delays

Hopeful immigrants to Canada say they’ve quit their jobs, sold their homes and put their lives on hold — only to be paralyzed by the processing delays and lack of communication from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The IRCC website estimates six months to process a PR application for federal skilled workers. Gharachorloo, who has been waiting 22 months and wants to move to Ottawa, said the lack of answers from IRCC is “mentally torturing.”

As many as 24 per cent of respondents said they were willing to relocate to Canada, followed by 20 per cent each willing to move to the United States or Australia. It was the first time in the survey’s eight year history that the U.S. lost the top spot as the most attractive destination for international workers.

CBC News – Newcomers Helping Decades-Old Dartmouth Daycare Survive, Thrive

Antra Mukherjee and her family, who had been living in the United Arab Emirates, applied to come to Canada a year ago through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot, launched four years ago as a way to lure immigrants to the Atlantic region to take jobs in hard-to-fill positions. As an early childhood educator, Mukherjee quickly matched her skills to a job at the Dartmouth Child Development Centre, which joined the program to find enough staff to keep the decades-old non-profit daycare from having to shut its doors.
