CBC News – Ottawa expands Afghan resettlement program as Taliban approach Kabul

Faced with a deteriorating security environment throughout Afghanistan, the federal government announced Friday that it intends to take in as many as 20,000 additional refugees from the war-torn country as the Taliban inch closer to the capital Kabul. Global News – Winnipeg Man Fears for Wife in Afghanistan as Taliban Control Expands

Amiri emigrated to Canada in 2006 and supports family back home, including his wife, Samia, working two jobs. He’s spent the last four years trying to bring her into the country, but her immigration case is stuck, Amiri said, even as he relentlessly contacts immigration services and lawyers. He apologizes to his wife every day during their daily two to three-hour phone conversations, and tries to console her, but he doesn’t know when she can come to Canada.

CBC News – ‘Must Be Caucasian’: Racist Room-for-Rent Ad Shows Discrimination Many Face Looking for Housing

An online ad for a room to rent in St. John’s that states applicants must be white is a particularly egregious example of the housing discrimination many people face all the time, says the executive director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission. The racist ad, which has now been removed by Kijiji, contains a list of conditions for applicants to rent the room, including “Must be Caucasian.”
