Radio-Canada – Des milliers d’étudiants étrangers coincés par Immigration Canada
Les universités canadiennes commencent leur session automnale la semaine prochaine au moment où des milliers d’étudiants des quatre coins du monde sont actuellement coincés, bloqués dans leur pays. Impossible pour eux de venir au Canada sans permis d’études validé par Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada (IRCC). Ce dernier admet un ralentissement dans le traitement de ces demandes. Face à cette situation, différentes universités ont expliqué à Radio-Canada qu’elles proposeront des cours en ligne, durant quelques semaines, pour les étudiants touchés.
Global News – Afghan Refugee Who Survived Horrific Spousal Attack Pleads for Girls Still in Country
A woman who fled to Canada as a refugee, after her husband shot her in the face in Afghanistan, says she’s getting heartbreaking pleas for help from women still trapped in the country. Shakila Zareen, when she was only 17 years old, was forcibly married to a much older cousin, 14 years her senior, who had links to the Taliban. In 2013, her husband shot her in the face, leaving her with life-altering injuries that required 23 reconstructive surgeries. She still has more to go. In 2018, Canada accepted her as a refugee.
CBC News – New Study Looking at How Immigrant Children Can Cope with Anxiety Through Art
New research conducted in P.E.I. will be looking at how the children of immigrant families can use art to better deal with anxiety. UPEI doctor of psychology student Shadi Shabih Khani is running a research project targeting the children of newcomers who’ve been in Canada for about a year. The study will dive into how creative activities can help them cope with anxiety, stress and self-esteem issues.

For Kyanh Do, one of the thousands of so-called “boat people” who fled Vietnam for Canada, the departure of U.S forces in Afghanistan and its fall to the Taliban brings back painful memories of his own experiences. “You may have two different countries. You may have different circumstances, but the result is the same,” said Do, who lives in Mississauga. “The communists took over Vietnam in 1975. The Taliban took over Afghanistan 2021.”
London Free Press – Support Agency ‘Stretched’ as Dozens of Afghan Refugees Reach London
To date, 36 Afghan newcomers, half of them children younger than 15, have arrived in London. “We know that more will arrive in London, but as to when or how many that is unknown at this time,” said Valy Marochko, executive director of the London Cross Cultural Learner Centre. The centre can receive and support about 50 people every two weeks, but they can only accept more refugees once they have secured long-term accommodations for those already here, Marochko said.

Devant le retrait des troupes canadiennes, de plus en plus de voix s’élèvent pour demander au gouvernement du Québec de mettre sur pied un programme d’urgence de parrainage pour les Afghans. Des élus et des membres de la société civile demandent aussi que l’actuel programme de parrainage privé soit pleinement fonctionnel et augmente le quota de dossiers qu’il peut traiter.
