CBC News – Ontario Opposition Leaders Call on Ford to Apologize for Remark About Immigrants

Ontario’s opposition leaders are criticizing Premier Doug Ford for a comment he made about immigrants. Ford was in Tecumseh, Ont., near Windsor, Ont., on Monday to announce funding for the planning of a new hospital in the region. After the announcement, Ford launched into a familiar line about Ontario’s biggest problem being a shortage of workers, particularly in the trades and construction. Globe and Mail – B.C. School Built on Land Used as a Burial Ground for Indigenous People, Chinese, Sikh Immigrants Is Relocated

In 1948, a piece of land along the western boundary of New Westminster, B.C., was eradicated by bulldozers. The site, which a century prior had been a final resting place for Chinese pioneers, Sikhs, and members of First Nations, soon disappeared when a high school was built on top of it. After more than a decade of planning and debate, that high school, New Westminster Secondary School, moved into a new building on an adjacent site in January.

The St. John’s Farmers’ Market was bustling on Thursday, but the usual crafts, produce and other goods were largely absent. Instead, the market transformed into the My St. John’s Live Expo, an event hosted by the St. John’s Immigration Partnership to showcase the resources available to newcomers. For newcomers such as Humberto Piccoli and Ana Pitol, who recently travelled to St. John’s from Curitiba, Brazil, gaining access to resources on topics from recycling to volunteering is an important part of settling down.
