CBC News – Regina Open Door Society Building Connections Between Newcomers and Indigenous People

Newcomers are finding ways to connect with Indigenous people through programs and workshops at the Regina Open Door Society (RODS). For seven years, RODS had been running programs to bridge the gap between newcomers to Canada and Indigenous culture. For example, the Youth Bridges program allows newcomers to connect with Indigenous youth and learn about the culture through activities while exploring traditions and history.

CTV News – Amid Labour Shortage, Quebec’s Immigration Policies are ‘Nonsense,’ Says Ex-minister Leitao

The labour shortage has become Quebec’s main economic problem, and it’s a phenomenon that will only get worse — and which the Legault government doesn’t seem to be following closely, said the former Liberal finance minister, MNA Carlos Leitao. According to him, the government must have three priorities: the regions, women and immigration.

Global News – Manitoba-Bound Ukrainian Families Disappointed as Children’s Visas Delayed

A Ukrainian-Canadian family in Winnipeg is pressing Ottawa for answers after their relatives waited weeks for visas for their children — caught in limbo in Germany, unable to go home to Ukraine or move on to their Canadian destination. Anastasia Aslanova and Mykhaylo Byelostotskiy are preparing to welcome Aslanova’s sister, Oleksandra, and two nieces — arranging beds and toys — but it’s a wait that’s weeks longer than they anticipated.

CBC News – Afghan Refugees Stalled in Starting New Lives in Canada as Paperwork has ‘Ground to a Halt’ Sponsor Says

Jim Estill, a sponsorship agreement holder with the government, has asked to bring 300 people to Canada. So far, he’s been told he can only sponsor 40. Estill said he’s a big supporter of private sponsorships because it doesn’t cost the government as much money and the resettlement process is easier. The Danby Appliances chief executive officer helps them find work and housing when they come to a community. He just needs the people to come.

CBC News – ‘Fleeing The Same War’ In Ukraine But Treated Differently: Black Doctor Bemoans Swiss Limbo

Dr. Mustapha Abdul Mumin never really believed in racism. People can get used to being around members of their own race, sometimes they get uncomfortable around others, and to some degree that discomfort is normal and part of life, he said. All of that is shattered for him now. What the 27-year-old saw and felt trying to board trains out of Ukraine — his home of eight years, where he can practice general medicine and was months away from obtaining a specialization in orthopedic surgery — have made him understand for the first time that he is different.
