Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents can now stay in the country for up to seven consecutive years. On Tuesday, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced the change to the “super visa” program, which previously only permitted stays of up to two years. “Families are at the heart of Canadian society,” Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said in a news release.

Immigrer rapidement au Canada après avoir réalisé une formation courte dans un collège privé non subventionné du Québec ne sera bientôt plus possible. À l’initiative du gouvernement Legault, Québec et Ottawa ont décidé de revoir l’accès au permis de travail post-diplôme. Un resserrement des règles sera en vigueur dès le 1er septembre 2023.

New Brunswick has already received 3,000 expressions of interest from people hoping to come to or stay in the province, forcing the province to temporarily pause what is called the express entry stream. In previous years, the federal government has given New Brunswick a quota of 450 to 600 spaces for immigrants coming to the province through the program. But, with the increased demand, and no federal allocation yet for New Brunswick this year, the province said the pause was needed.

Quebec is planning to close a pathway to immigration available to international students who attend unsubsidized private colleges. The new rules, announced Tuesday by the provincial government in collaboration with Ottawa, will go into effect for those enrolling after September 2023. Only those who have completed a study program in a public or subsidized private college will be able to get a work permit.

Près de 80% des étudiants africains qui soumettent une demande d’admission dans des établissements postsecondaires francophones canadiens ne se retrouveraient pas sur les bancs d’école à la rentrée. Si certains peuvent avoir abandonné leur projet d’étudier au Canada, d’autres voient leur demande refusée par Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada. Lorsqu’un étudiant de l’étranger souhaite étudier au Canada, il doit d’abord envoyer son dossier à l’établissement qui l’intéresse.
