A women’s transition home, providing long-term shelter for immigrant, refugee and Muslim women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, is about to open in Hamilton. The outlet, operated by Nisa Homes, expects to aid a growing immigrant population in the city requiring unique cultural or religious needs. Nisa Homes operates nine transition homes in Canada, funded by a Muslim charity called the National Zakat Foundation.

CBC News – This Ukrainian Newcomer Is an Uber Driver. He Says Only Having Temporary Status in Canada Is Hurting Him

In a matter of months, Fuad Vekhbe went from owning two dental clinics in Ukraine to driving Uber in Windsor — a job that he says isn’t enough to support his family financially. Vekhbe, his wife, their two kids and a family friend arrived in Windsor from Ukraine about five months ago. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February caused the family to flee, leaving most of their belongings behind.

CBC News – Ottawa Reveals Plan to Welcome 500,000 Immigrants Per Year by 2025

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser revealed the new targets Tuesday, saying the move is necessary to ensure Canada’s economic prosperity. The announcement signals a significant increase from the 405,000 immigrants that came to Canada last year and the 465,000 expected to arrive next year. Canadian industries are facing a significant labour shortage. About one million jobs are vacant across the country.

Radio-Canada – 80% des immigrants francophones noirs à Sudbury perçoivent de la discrimination

L’étude a été réalisée auprès de 173 immigrants francophones noirs venant de 17 pays entre février et août 2021. Une grande majorité des immigrants francophones noirs vivant à Sudbury perçoivent ou subissent de la discrimination dans plusieurs secteurs d’activité, dont celui de l’emploi. C’est ce que révèle une nouvelle étude du Réseau de soutien à l’immigration francophone du Nord de l’Ontario. Les nouveaux arrivants ivoiriens du Grand Sudbury ont souvent du mal à trouver des emplois permanents, et ce, même après des études en sol canadien.

As immigration surges to its highest levels in Canadian history, a new poll finds that Canada remains one of the most pro-immigration countries on Earth. According to a telephone survey of 2,000 Canadians conducted by the Environics Institute, record-high numbers of Canadians agree with the notion that Canada “needs more immigrants.” This is in tandem with record low numbers of Canadians who report a belief that “immigration levels are too high.”
