The play, called ‘Alunsina’s Love,’ was written by playwright and filmmaker Christopher Gozum. The show is aimed at bridging the western and Filipino culture, and connecting theatre, academics and immigrant communities. Dennis Gupa, assistant professor and director of the play, said the department commissioned the show from Gozum, who is from the Philippines.

The province’s deputy immigration minister told the legislature’s public accounts committee Wednesday that Nova Scotia surpassed last year’s total of 9,025 new permanent residents almost three months ago. “This year, 10,670 new permanent residents have already been recorded from January to September,” said Ava Czapalay. “That is more than any previous year and we still have three months remaining in the calendar year for processing.”

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has been named in 709 mandamus applications filed in federal court this fiscal year, which started in April, according to figures provided by IRCC as of Nov. 14. The filings are easily on pace to surpass the total for the previous fiscal year. Mandamus is an order issued by a court to a lower court, or government entity, to carry out their duties. Thus, hundreds of people are seeking a judicial order that compels Immigration to finish processing their applications.

Le ministre de l’Économie, Pierre Fitzgibbon, en appelle au réalisme et estime que la cible d’immigration 100 % francophone annoncée par le premier ministre doit laisser une place à des exceptions, notamment dans la filière batterie. Cette sortie est appuyée par le Conseil du patronat. « Ça serait le fun d’avoir 100 %. Mais il faut être réaliste et balancer ça avec les besoins », a lancé M. Fitzgibbon à l’entrée du Conseil des ministres mercredi.

C’est un total de 90 900 personnes provenant d’autres pays qui se sont établies au Québec du 1er juillet 2021 au 30 juin 2022. La différence, ce sont les immigrants temporaires, des gens qui sont entrés au Québec pour diverses raisons – travailleurs agricoles, étudiants internationaux, travailleurs spécialisés, demandeurs d’asile.

After the 22-year-old shared her story with CTV National News, a family reached out to refugee advocate Mona Elshayal. Just last week, Abu Sirdana moved into a two-bedroom condo with the family’s daughter in Ottawa.
