She lived in an underground shelter for 10 days not knowing if she would get out alive.
CBC News – ‘Surge’ in Demand for Services as Quebec Migrants Transferred to Ontario
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada says it began transferring migrants arriving in Quebec to Ottawa and Niagara Falls in July as Quebec’s shelter system — and hotels rented by IRCC — reached capacity. Since the weekend, the transfers have increased. Quebec’s immigration minister said this week that of the 505 migrants who entered the country through an unofficial border crossing at Roxham Road on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 475 were transferred to other provinces.

Her own situation, however, is still less than certain. The 35-year-old was granted a temporary visa to work in Canada while she seeks refuge from the war, but her son Nikita is one of nearly 279,000 Ukrainians whose applications are still waiting for a response.

La ville de Winnipeg a accueilli, jeudi, le Sommet sur la santé des immigrants francophones de l’Ouest et du nord du Canada. CBC News – Cornwall, Ont., Needs Resources to Support Influx of Asylum Seekers, Mayor Says
Cornwall is unable to meet the needs of its growing population of asylum seekers, local officials say, and the eastern Ontario city is looking to recoup costs it believes the federal government has downloaded onto the municipality. That city and the surrounding United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry are currently covering half the administrative costs for all provincial support programs for asylum seekers in the city, according to Cornwall Mayor Justin Towndale.
Toronto Star – Nova Scotia Says a Record Number of Immigrants Became Permanent Residents in 2022
Opposition parties in Nova Scotia say they’re concerned the province lacks the housing and health-care resources to support newcomers as immigration to the province reaches new highs. Jill Balser, minister of labour, skills and immigration, said Thursday that a record 12,650 new permanent residents made Nova Scotia their home last year, surpassing the 2021 total by 38 per cent.
