University of Calgary – Refugee Youth Artwork Reimagines the Future Through Anti-Racist Lens
Love, friendships, grief and pain are all part of an upcoming evening of interactive art by refugee youth titled Landings: Anti-Racist Futures in Stories. The event on March 28 will feature five stations created by 30 refugee youth, telling the stories of newcomers in Calgary using mediums such as computer simulations, sketch and stop-motion animation, short documentaries, and songs. Through their art, the contributors, ranging in age from 14 to 21, will reimagine resettlement in an anti-racist framework.

Home construction in British Columbia will need to rise to unprecedented levels to offset the impact of record immigration on the housing market, the B.C. Real Estate Association said in a new report on Tuesday. The province must build 25 per cent more new homes than usual for the next five years to address deteriorating affordability.

L’association représentant des agents immobiliers de la Colombie-Britannique, la British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA), estime que la construction de logements doit atteindre des niveaux sans précédent afin de compenser l’impact d’une immigration record dans la province. Dans son dernier rapport, la BCREA avance que la province doit construire, au cours des cinq prochaines années, 25 % de maisons de plus qu’à l’habitude, soit 43 000 habitations achevées chaque année.

Le gouvernement canadien vient d’annoncer qu’il changera les règles pour l’accès à la propriété pour les non-Canadiens. En effet, nous avions annoncé dès le mois de novembre que les étrangers ne pouvaient plus acheter des propriétés à partir du 1er janvier 2023, créant une certaine panique chez certains nouveaux arrivants qui n’avaient pas le bon statut. Le ministre canadien du Logement et de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion, Ahmed Hussen, en a fait l’annonce le 27 mars afin d’amener des modifications au règlement d’application de la Loi sur l’interdiction d’achat d’immeubles résidentiels par des non-Canadiens.
