La ministre de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration du Québec (MIFI), Christine Fréchette, a annoncé jeudi à Rouyn-Noranda la création d’une direction régionale pour l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue et le Nord-du-Québec. La nouvelle direction régionale sera la 10e créée par le ministère. Christine Fréchette a mentionné que six postes seront créés pour accompagner les entreprises et les collectivités. Il est question notamment de conseillers en immigration régionale, en reconnaissance des compétences et en francisation ainsi que d’agents d’aide en intégration.
CBC – Amid ‘historic’ labour shortages, province to spend millions on skills training in northern Ontario
The Ontario government is spending more than $7 million to bring more training opportunities to northern Ontario amid what it’s calling a “critical shortage” of ironworkers and welders.
David Piccini, Ontario minister of labour, immigration, training and skills development, made the announcement Wednesday in Thunder Bay at Ironworkers Local 759 alongside Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland.

Alors que la demande se fait de plus en plus grande pour embaucher des travailleurs agricoles étrangers dans le contexte de pénurie de main-d’œuvre, la Commission de protection du territoire agricole du Québec prolonge son projet pilote pour l’hébergement de travailleurs agricoles temporaires jusqu’au 31 décembre 2024.
CBC – Ottawa reviewing virtual citizenship ceremonies as petition calls on government to pull the plug
The federal immigration minister says the government is weighing its options on virtual citizenship ceremonies after a petition signed by more than 1,500 Canadians called on Ottawa to pull the plug.
“Doing your citizenship ceremony in public, in front of all your family and with people that are becoming new Canadians, is a moment to remember in people’s lives. It is the absolute preferred option,” Immigration Minister Marc Miller said last week.
