National Post – ‘Out of control’: Immigration minister says he wants to reduce international student arrivals
OTTAWA – Canada’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller said he is looking at ways to rein in an international student system that has “gotten out of control.”
Miller’s office said he was unavailable for an interview with the National Post, but on two weekend political shows he had the same message, saying he would be looking at ways to reduce the number of international students, which has hit 800,000 students a year. The increase is considered one of many factors leading to housing shortages and rent hikes across the country.

Le contrôle de sécurité que le gouvernement fédéral a mis en place pour les personnes souhaitant fuir la bande de Gaza fait l’objet de critiques de la part d’avocats qui estiment que ses questions sont trop invasives et d’autres qui pensent que le contrôle devrait être encore plus approfondi. Un programme spécial qui permettrait à un maximum de 1000 personnes à Gaza ayant des parents au Canada de demander un visa a été ouvert la semaine dernière, le gouvernement fédéral faisant des recherches d’antécédents à un niveau de détail inhabituel.

Ils travaillent chez Walmart, au Costco, chez Rona, au Dollarama, au IGA. Ils sont arrivés au Québec il y a un an. Certains sont ici depuis quelques mois à peine. Ils n’ont jamais été aussi nombreux à fréquenter nos institutions du haut savoir. Ils étaient un peu plus de 58 000, l’automne dernier. Une hausse de près de 7 % comparativement à l’automne 2022 (source: Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI). Mais n’allez pas croire que leur parcours est de tout repos.

On Thursday, Chrystia Freeland was asked whether Canada has an immigration problem. In her response, she suggested Canada has a housing problem.
Canada, she argued, is the most welcoming country in the world for newcomers and enjoys an economic and competitive advantage as a result. But “if we want to be a country that welcomes new Canadians — and I strongly believe that’s the right thing for all of us,” she said, “we have to build more homes faster.”
CTV – New immigrants’ incomes ‘improved considerably’ in recent years in Canada: report
New permanent residents’ incomes compared to the general population have “improved considerably” over four years in Canada, according to Parliamentary Budget Officer Yves Giroux.
The Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) released its independent report Friday on how the median income of new immigrants changed and some of the underlying factors behind it. The PBO provides independent economic and financial analysis to Parliament aimed at budget transparency and accountability.
