Minister Kenney is travelling to New Zealand as part of a bilateral fellowship program agreed to between Prime Minister Stephen Harper and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key that aims to facilitate exchanges of political, business and academic figures between the two countries.

The far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) is riding a wave of renewed popularity, with support levels hovering around 26 per cent in recent months—rivalling Austria’s mainstream social democrat and centre-right parties for the first time in nearly a decade. That’s raised the possibility that Heinz-Christian Strache, the party’s controversial leader, will become Austria’s next chancellor. More likely, the FPÖ could join a coalition.
Government of Canada Ramps up Citizenship Revocations to Tackle Fraud
The Government of Canada is beginning the process to revoke the citizenship of up to 1,800 citizens who have obtained it fraudulently. Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced new details of the ongoing initiative today. “Canadian citizenship is not for sale,” said Minister Kenney. “There are some around the world who would abuse Canada’s openness and seek to devalue Canadian citizenship. We will apply the full force of Canadian law to punish those who have obtained citizenship fraudulently.”
There are no guarantees that any of the suspected war criminals recently nabbed with the help of an online “wanted” list will actually face justice in their home countries. Federal ministers said Wednesday Canada simply wants to get rid of the men because their alleged crimes make them inadmissible. Human rights advocates say the federal government is dodging its responsibilities by deporting – not prosecuting – the suspects.
We’re pleased the federal government responded quickly to our campaign to publish the names and photographs of suspected war criminals hiding in Canada. Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, following the posting of the identities of 30 men suspected of international war crimes on the web site of the Canada Border Services Agency, credited QMI Agency and Sun News Network for the initiative. “These war criminals gained notoriety through Sun Media,” Toews said, following a series of articles by reporter Tom Godfrey and an editorial urging the information be made public.
Canadian doctors now have their largest, most comprehensive reference guide yet to use in treating immigrants and refugees. Compiled from global data, the 100-page report published Monday by the Canadian Medical Association Journal is the first of its kind and synthesizes results from 150 investigators. The guidebook highlights medical problems that are common among immigrants and refugees but can easily get overlooked because they’re not typical in the wider Canadian population.
