Canada.com – Jason Kenney Supports Bill Stripping Citizenship for Dual Nationals Linked to Terrorism
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney appeared before committee Thursday to voice his support for a private member’s bill that proposes to strip Canadian citizenship from dual nationals who commit acts of war against Canada and said he would like the bill broadened to also apply to dual citizens committing acts of terrorism and high treason. […] The bill would only apply to dual or multiple citizens because Canada has international commitments to reduce the number of stateless people. This has raised the ire of some critics who say the bill, if passed, would create a two-tiered system of citizenship whereby dual citizens would be subject to different penalties than people without multiple citizenships.

They came from a dozen different countries from all over the world, eager to build a new life for themselves in Canada by embracing the profession they had left behind. On Wednesday night at Mohawk College, the YWCA Hamilton’s Bridging to Employment program held its first graduation ceremony, honouring 40 immigrants for completing one of the YWCA’s two programs; Bridging to Information and Communications Technology and Bridging to Environment. The programs provide internationally trained professionals with courses designed to upgrade technical and non-technical skills in order to match the requirements and expectations of Canadian employers.
Citoyenneté et Immigration Canada – Communiqué – Le Canada réinstallera 1 300 réfugiés syriens d’ici la fin de 2014
Le ministre de la Citoyenneté, de l’Immigration et du Multiculturalisme, Jason Kenney, a annoncé aujourd’hui que le Canada s’est engagé, dans un premier temps, à réinstaller jusqu’à 1 300 réfugiés syriens cette année et l’année prochaine. […] En réponse à l’appel lancé au Canada par l’HCR [Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés] pour qu’il réinstalle un nombre limité de personnes extrêmement vulnérables en situation d’urgence, le Canada réinstallera, en 2013 et 2014, 200 réfugiés syriens extrêmement vulnérables dans le cadre du Programme de réfugiés pris en charge par le gouvernement. De plus, le Canada collabore avec des signataires d’entente de parrainage et s’est engagé à accueillir jusqu’à 1 100 réfugiés syriens en 2014 dans le cadre du programme de parrainage privé de réfugiés. Ce nombre est en sus du nombre d’espaces de réinstallation des signataires d’entente de parrainage.

[…] Ce prix est remis annuellement à une personne ou à un groupe qui fait preuve de dévouement pour promouvoir la diversité, le multiculturalisme et l’intégration des nouveaux arrivants au sein de la société canadienne.
CTV News – Halifax Police Warn Immigrants About Deportation Scam
Police are warning newcomers to Canada about a scam in which a caller threatens to deport them if they don’t pay a fee. Someone has already fallen victim to the scam and police are concerned there could be more victims who are scared to come forward. The call comes in from a 1-800-number and the person on the other end of the line claims to be a Canada Border Services agent. […] Ortal Faibushenko, who has been in Nova Scotia for five months, is taking a workplace communication class with Immigration Settlement and Integration Services. Along with learning the language, the class is taught life lessons, including information about scams and frauds.

Bashir Ahmed of Edmonton, Alberta is the recipient of the 2013 Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism, announced Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism. “For more than 20 years, Mr. Ahmed has worked tirelessly in both Ottawa and Edmonton to advocate the importance of multiculturalism and help integrate Somali newcomers, particularly youth, in Canada,” said Minister Kenney. “I am happy to announce him as the recipient of this year’s Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism.” The award is bestowed annually on an individual or a group who demonstrates dedication to advancing diversity, multiculturalism and the integration of newcomers into Canadian society.
