La Presse – Eurotunnel: 400 immigrants clandestins tentent de traverser
Quelque 400 tentatives d’intrusion de migrants désirant gagner l’Angleterre ont été dénombrées dans la nuit de samedi à dimanche sur le site d’Eurotunnel près de Calais, a rapporté une source policière. Peu avant minuit, «il y a eu une première tentative, les migrants ont réussi à franchir plusieurs barrières et la dernière barrière a été retenue par les forces de l’ordre», a indiqué de son côté une porte-parole d’Eurotunnel à l’AFP. La présence des migrants a nécessité l’interruption du trafic transmanche de 23h30 à 04h30. «Leur nombre a contraint à arrêter le trafic par sécurité pour les clients et pour les migrants», a dit la porte-parole à l’AFP. Selon elle, contrairement aux nuits précédentes, où les migrants procédaient par très petits groupes, «cela donnait l’impression d’être concerté»: «Ils n’étaient pas juste un ou deux, où on est en contrôle et suffisamment certain que la personne ne va pas se mettre en danger». Un groupe de migrants a ensuite observé un «sit-in» sur l’une des bretelles d’accès au tunnel, et était selon une source proche du dossier accompagné de deux militants de l’association No Border.
Radio-Canada – Les Haïtiens de Montréal à la défense de leurs compatriotes dominicains
La diaspora haïtienne de Montréal a manifesté dimanche afin de dénoncer la politique migratoire de la République dominicaine. Dans ce pays, plus de 200 000 migrants haïtiens et Dominicains d’ascendance haïtienne sont menacés d’expulsion. « On a décidé de passer à l’action parce qu’on se dit qu’une situation comme ça, ça ne se peut pas », déplore la présidente de l’Organisation d’entraide canado-haïtienne, Asma Heurtelou. Le gouvernement fait planer cette menace d’expulsion massive depuis 2013. Cette année-là, la cour constitutionnelle dominicaine a décidé de priver des milliers d’habitants de leur citoyenneté en statuant que les enfants d’Haïtiens nés en République dominicaine depuis 1929 ne sont pas Dominicains. Suite à cette décision, ce sont quatre générations de Dominicains sans papiers qui, soudainement dénationalisés, risquaient de se retrouver apatrides. Ils avaient jusqu’en juin pour régulariser leur statut. Mais des 450 000 personnes admissibles, dont des immigrants haïtiens, à peine les deux tiers ont réussi à soumettre la documentation nécessaire avant la date limite en juin dernier.

But her work in this field started with a much more personal struggle. When the couple left Chile in 1989, Morrissey returned to Canada and Coll, a dual U.S.-Irish citizen, entered Canada on a visitor visa. The two wanted to stay together permanently, but the law at the time only allowed married, heterosexual couples to sponsor their partners. […] The pair launched a legal challenge under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, alleging discrimination on the basis of gender, family and sexual orientation because Morrissey was not able to sponsor a partner the same way a heterosexual person could.

Pour les citoyens européens, l’immigration est désormais le principal défi auquel doit s’atteler l’Union européenne, devant les questions économiques et le chômage, selon un baromètre réalisé fin mai dans les Etats membres de l’Union européenne et les pays candidats, et rendu public fin juillet par la Commission européenne. C’est la première fois, depuis que cette enquête bisannuelle est posée dans ces termes à l’automne 2010, que les thèmes économiques ne sont plus en tête. L’immigration est désormais le sujet le plus cité dans 20 des Etats membres.
Toronto Star – Hungary Copes with Wave of Migrants
More than 100,000 migrants have reached Hungary so far this year, nearly all of them entering through its southern border with Serbia, the Hungarian foreign minister said Friday. Peter Szijjarto said that both Hungary and Serbia are facing “unprecedented immigration pressure” and that more migrants are coming to the European Union on the land route across the Balkans than by crossing the Mediterranean. “This means that this year in the European Union, the highest number of illegal immigrants has arrived in Hungary,” Szijjarto said after reopening a border crossing with his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dadic, near the Hungarian village of Roszke and Horgos in Serbia. Hungary says it will finish building a four-meter-high fence on the border between the two countries by Aug. 31 to try to stem the flow of migrants. Serbia has been strongly opposed to the fence, but Dadic acknowledged that the migrant flow needs to be controlled.
The Local – Danish Companies: Drop Anti-Refugee Ads
A number of major companies based in Denmark have decided to publicly voice their resentment at the Venstre government’s plans to place anti-refugee advertisements in foreign newspapers, arguing that it will damage Denmark’s reputation abroad. Communications director at Grundfos, Kim Nøhr Skibsted, told Jyllands-Posten that the ads will send a clear signal that Denmark is a “closed country” and make it more difficult for businesses to recruit workers from abroad as well as making other markets less keen on buying Danish products. “The government is going ahead with full-page advertisements where we tell people that we would rather not see them. That won’t make us any richer, just poorer. So we at Grundfos recommend calling off this initiative,” Skibsted told Jyllands-Posten. […]The Venstre government has come under considerable criticism – even from within its own party – following Integration Minister Inger Støjberg’s announcement last week that the government plans to run anti-refugee ads in foreign newspapers. The minister said last week that she was prepared to run advertisements in foreign newspapers that will contain information aimed at deterring refugees from coming to Denmark.
