Un important dossier attend la nouvelle ministre du Développement international Marie-Claude Bibeau. À ce titre, c’est elle qui devra gérer les fonds d’aide humanitaire destinés aux réfugiés syriens. Rappelons que son chef Justin Trudeau a promis d’accueillir 25 000 réfugiés de la Syrie au pays d’ici mai prochain. La nouvelle élue dans Compton-Stanstead travaillera de près avec Stéphane Dion, nommé ministre des Affaires extérieures.

Brampton Guardian – Online Tool Helps Peel Agencies Craft Programs for Newcomers

Some weeks ago, a fire department in a Peel municipality tapped into the Peel Newcomer Strategy Group’s (PNSG) online resource tool during the planning of its campaign and hit a gold mine of relevant data. The tool, created in partnership the Peel Data Centre (PDC) and PNSG’s Service Delivery Network, has among other things: Newcomer specific data and mapping of services and updated statistics by small levels of geography based on the 2011 census and National Household Survey.

Refugee support organizations in Nova Scotia are awaiting word of how many Syrian refugees could soon be arriving at our doorstep. It all depends on how a federal Liberal promise plays out to bring 25,000 refugees to Canada by the end of this year. The Star Phoenix – Support Groups Say Trudeau’s Refugee Promise Will Add Pressure

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s campaign promise to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada through government sponsorship by the end of 2015 could bring as many as 1,800 refugees to Saskatchewan, says one refugee and immigration expert. Chris Friesen, chair of the Canadian Immigrant Settlement Sector Alliance, said he feels Trudeau’s promise, while important from a social and cultural perspective, may prove impossible.

Canada’s newest democratic institutions minister is a 30-year-old woman who fled Afghanistan with her widowed mother and two sisters when she was a child. Maryam Monsef is the new MP for the bellwether Ontario riding of Peterborough–Kawartha. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau elevated her to his 31-member cabinet — making her the youngest minister and the fourth-youngest ever.

Toronto Star – Ottawa Urged to End Deportations to Burundi Amid Soaring Violence

With growing unrest and ethnic tension seething in Burundi, Ottawa has offered failed asylum seekers from the landlocked African country a chance to prove to officials their lives would be in danger if deported. However, there is no promise the pre-removal risk assessment or PRRA would spare them from deportation to the country the United Nations warns is once again on the verge of civil war.
