Le Conseil des arts du Canada et la Financière Sun Life offriront aux réfugiés syriens l’accès à des spectacles, à des expositions et à des événements artistiques dans leur communauté à compter d’avril 2016. Le Conseil des arts, financé par Ottawa, versera 150 000 $ pour cette initiative. La Sun Life contribuera quant à elle à hauteur de 50 000 $.

A new poll suggests that a plurality of Canadians now support the government’s plan to resettle thousands of refugees in Canada, a marked contrast from the more mitigated support polls were recording on this question in the wake of the Paris attacks. But whether this means that Canadians have warmed up to the idea of resettling 25,000 Syrians by the end of February 2016 remains something of an open question.

Almost two dozen refugees will now call Calgary home, after 20 more were flown in Friday as part of the national refugee program. The group of twenty touched down at the Calgary International Airport. Calgary has the third largest number of private sponsors in Canada, behind Montreal and southern Ontario.

An organization in Kelowna, B.C., is complaining about the lack of notice from the federal government about the arrival of a family of refugees it’s sponsoring, who will be arriving this week. Keith Germaine, the spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nelson, said his congregation has been waiting for months for a family of four to come to Kelowna. Germaine said the federal government only gave him two days’ notice before the family arrives Friday.

Réunis à Moose Jaw la fin de semaine dernière, les députés de l’Assemblée communautaire fransaskoise se sont penchés sur la possible obtention du statut d’organisme « porte d’entrée ». Obtenir ce statut permettrait à l’organisme de favoriser l’immigration francophone.
