L’Union européenne a adopté jeudi la prolongation exceptionnelle des contrôles aux frontières intérieures de l’espace Schengen pour les cinq pays qui les ont rétablis en 2015 au plus fort de l’afflux migratoire vers l’Europe. La recommandation en ce sens, présentée le 4 mai par la Commission européenne, a été adoptée jeudi par le Conseil de l’UE, qui réunit les États membres.

As Ontario reviews the voting rules for its 444 municipalities, the governing Liberals have devoted much attention to the issue of how votes should be counted. Last month the Liberals announced they would allow municipalities to use a ranked ballot system — in which voters can rank candidates in order of preference — to elect local councillors and mayors. It’s a great idea and one I championed as a board member of the Ranked Ballot Initiative of Toronto.
The Obama administration is planning another series of raids that would lead to the deportation of Central American mothers and children found to have entered the country illegally, the Department of Homeland Security said Thursday. […] The raids will target adults and children who crossed the border illegally after Jan. 1, 2014, a population of immigrants that the Obama administration has identified as priorities for deportation, according to Homeland Security spokeswoman Marsha Catron.

The federal government doesn’t know how many Syrian refugees have found work since landing in Canada, Immigration Minister John McCallum admitted on Thursday, five months after the newcomers started arriving. Mr. McCallum told a House of Commons that the government is trying to obtain the jobs numbers for Syrian refugees.
