Le candidat à la direction du Parti québécois Alexandre Cloutier a défendu, jeudi, ses voeux adressés aux musulmans à la fin du ramadan, en se réclamant de Barack Obama et de Bernie Sanders. L’enjeu de la laïcité continue donc de diviser au Parti québécois, puisque M. Cloutier répond ainsi aux critiques de Jean-François Lisée, un de ses rivaux dans la course actuelle.

Fostering a culture of inclusivity and celebrating diversity is all part of Waterloo Region Immigration Partnership’s new, year-long campaign called I Am Waterloo Region.“This campaign aims to promote inspiring stories from immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers who are in this community and who have helped to shape and enrich this region,” Tara Bedard, Immigration Partnership manager, told regional council during a meeting last month.

Reuters Canada – EU Proposes New Asylum Rules to Stop Migrants Crossing Europe

The European Commission proposed more unified EU asylum rules on Wednesday, in a bid to stop people waiting for refugee status moving around the bloc and disrupting its passport-free zone.

CBC – Syrian Refugees Join Mini University Program at U of M

A group of Syrian refugees will be attending the University of Manitoba over the next two weeks as part of the Mini U program. The program has hosted thousands of children each summer over the past 38 years, helping them develop leadership skills and take part in new activities. This year, alongside the 800 children the program sees every day, 22 children and 14 adults who have recently come to Canada from Syria will be joining in on the fun.

CBC – Immigration Detainees on Hunger Strike Demand Meeting with Goodale

A group of immigration detainees on a hunger strike at two Ontario prisons is demanding to meet Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale. But a spokesperson for Goodale would not say on Tuesday whether the minister is prepared to meet with the detainees, reported to number more than 60. […] According to End Immigration Detention Network, the detainees went on a hunger strike earlier this year in April. CBSA officials met with them, but the group said they have not followed through on the promises they made.
