Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, a civilian law enforcement agency tasked with investigating police officers, is investigating the actions of those two officers — Const. Dave Weir and Const. Daniel Montsion — and the circumstances surrounding Abdi’s death. It could take months to complete the probe. Neither officer involved in Abdi’s death is on front-line duty at the moment, but their employment status remains the same.
Global News – U of R Receives Overwhelming Response to Refugee Child Only Summer Camp
A new pilot program is welcoming children to a summer camp for refugees. The program is put together at the University of Regina every Saturday with assistance from the Regina Open Doors Society, and volunteers. Irene Barnes is the program coordinator and said the response to the camp was overwhelming.

Sitting around a table at the Kitchen Collective on King Street East, Rawa’a Aloliwi, Dalal Al Zoubi and Manahel Al Shareef share a laugh about the way things have turned out. Through a translator, they explain that they never expected they’d be the ones going to work — launching a small business, no less — while their husbands go to classes to improve their English.
