Turkey’s president accused the European Union on Friday of failing to deliver funds it promised as part of a deal to stop migrants crossing the Aegean Sea, adding to fears that the agreement which has curtailed last year’s huge refugee surge to Europe’s heartland is about to collapse. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the EU had pledged 6 billion euros ($6.7 billion) in support of some 3 million refugees Turkey currently hosts, but has delivered only 183 million euros.

A quaint community garden in Winnipeg’s north end has blossomed into an oasis for newcomers to the city. Since opening in May, the “Garden of Nations” has been a source of fresh, healthy food and companionship for 15 families still adjusting to life in Canada. “It’s a really tough journey for a lot of people,” said Amy Henderson, newcomer program co-ordinator at Food Matters Manitoba. “When they get here they think their troubles are over, but there’s still a lot of adjusting and they have to learn a new language. The support is there at first, but then it dries up after a while and it can be really stressful and hard to afford healthy food.”

The New Canadians’ Centre of Excellence Inc. collaborated with the public and Catholic school boards to put on the orientation day that is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
CBC – Lakehead University Welcomes Record Number of International Students
The international student population at Thunder Bay’s Lakehead University is getting bigger and bigger. More than 400 new international students are enrolled at Lakehead for the 2016-2017 school year, said Robert Perrier, Lakehead’s director of international enrolment. “This incoming class is almost a doubling of last year’s intake,” Perrier said.
