A man who helped thousands of Syrian refugees resettle in B.C. says he’s disappointed the number of refugees Canada plans to accept next year is dropping. Yesterday federal Immigration Minister John McCallum announced new targets for the number of immigrants Canada will allow next year. The targets include 40,000 refugees and protected persons, down from nearly 56,000 this year.

Le Canada n’augmentera pas le nombre d’immigrants qu’il accueillera l’an prochain, mais il jette les bases pour une éventuelle hausse des seuils dans les années à venir. Les chiffres annoncés lundi à la Chambre des communes indiquent que le Canada prévoit recevoir 300 000 nouveaux arrivants l’an prochain, soit la même proportion d’immigrants qui doivent arriver durant l’année en cours.
Radio-Canada – Un groupe d’aide aux réfugiés à Winnipeg bat un record de parrainage
Le groupe d’aide winnipégois Hospitality House Refugee Ministry a accueilli son 1000e réfugié de 2016, battant ainsi un record pour le parrainage de personnes déplacées. Selon le directeur général de Hospitality House, aucune autre organisation au Canada n’a accueilli autant de réfugiés dans le cadre du programme fédéral de parrainage privé cette année.
