The Peterborough Examiner – New Canadians Centre Seeking $50K More for City in 2017 for Refugee Resettlement in Peterborough

A request for extra money in next year’s budget to help resettle Syrian refugees will be considered by city councillors next week. […] Last year, council promised to give the NCC $25,000 in 2016 and the same sum again in 2017. But now the NCC says it needs more money; they’re looking for a total of $75,000 in 2017. A city staff report says they’ll use the money to hire Arabic-speaking staff and to help bolster the support for all refugee families arriving in 2017. (There are already about 220 refugees here now, according to the report.)

CBC – New Fee for [Manitoba] Provincial Nominees as Province Looks to Clear Backlog

Premier Brian Pallister plans to have a backlog of provincial nominee program applications cleared by April 2017.
