The number of Syrians who have fled their country after six years of civil war has surpassed the 5-million mark, the UN refugee agency said on Thursday. UNHCR announced the milestone a year after participating countries at a Geneva conference pledged to “resettle and facilitate pathways for 500,000 refugees” from Syria — but only half of those places have been allocated so far.

They are forced to accept whatever private health insurance their university offers. At Concordia, that provider is Blue Cross, and their prices of health insurance for international students are the most expensive in Quebec.
The Globe and Mail – Border-Crosser Arrests Drop Steeply in B.C., Rise Elsewhere
Statistics recently released by the federal government say 207 asylum seekers were apprehended by the B.C. RCMP in January, compared with 245 arrests in Quebec and 19 in Manitoba. But while the numbers jumped in Quebec and Manitoba the following month, B.C. saw a sharp decline. In February, Quebec had 432 people intercepted by police, Manitoba had 142 and B.C. saw 84. The data did not indicate precisely where in the provinces those arrests were made.
