CBC News New Brunswick – New ‘Social’ Lab Focuses on Retaining and Attracting Immigrants in N.B.

A new lab at the Pond-Deshpande Centre at the University of New Brunswick is hoping to help attract more immigrants to the province and then retain them. The lab is hoping to recruit between 30 and 50 people to help focus on key issues that make it difficult for immigrants to settle in New Brunswick. The council will come up with ideas and possible solutions to improve attraction and retention.

CBC News – Liberals’ Citizenship Bill to Proceed with Some Senate Amendments

The Liberal government is prepared to adopt some of the Senate’s proposed amendments to its citizenship bill, Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen said Friday. Bill C-6 is designed to repeal many of the previous Conservative government’s changes to how people become citizens — and how they can lose that status.

CBC News Calgary – Program Helps Foreign-Trained Engineers Find Jobs in Calgary

The Calgary Catholic Immigration Society has graduated a new crop of engineers. The 15 immigrants have qualifications from their home countries, but couldn’t find a job in Calgary because they lacked Canadian experience. CCIS has graduated about 450 engineers through the province-sponsored program since it began in 1994, according to Sholeh Mahdavi, the program’s manager.

Globe and Mail – International Business Students Flocking to Canada

New data on potential applicants to global business schools, released recently by the U.S.-based Graduate Management Admission Council, show that between 2009 and 2016 Canada muscled its way onto a top-five list of international study destinations. The United States and Britain typically are preferred choices, but last year Canada moved into second place (from fifth in 2009) as a destination for prospective MBA students from Africa.
