Toronto Star – Nisa Homes Provides a Safe Haven for Muslim Women in Need

Nisa Homes is the GTA’s first transitional shelter specifically geared to serving Muslim women. The Mississauga location of Nisa — which means women in Arabic — opened its doors three years ago. Every day, the small house in Mississauga opens its doors and its heart to women in need. And for up to three months a year, 14 women and children from across the GTA, make it their home.

CBC News – Ontario Says Quebec Law on Religious Neutrality Violates Charter

Ontario’s Liberal government says it believes Quebec’s new law on religious neutrality runs contrary to Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms and will lead to legal challenges. Attorney General Yasir Naqvi says the government disagrees with the law passed by Quebec’s national assembly in a 66-51 vote today, and won’t consider a similar bill.

CBC News – Thunder Bay Muslim Association Creates Bursary for Young Indigenous Mothers at Lakehead University

The Thunder Bay Muslim Association is hoping to lend a helping hand to young Indigenous mothers who are attending school and trying to make a difference. Recently, the association in the northwestern Ontario city raised $12,000 for a bursary to support young Indigenous mothers who are attending classes at Lakehead University. Taina and Walid Chahal, who are both members of the association and teach at Lakehead, said the association was looking into setting up another bursary for non-Muslim students in Thunder Bay when they noticed the alarming number of young Indigenous mothers struggling to attend classes.

Le Journal de Québec – Discrimination systémique et racisme : Québec fait une croix sur sa consultation

Après des mois de controverse, Québec modifie de fond en comble le mandat de la consultation sur la discrimination systémique et le racisme, qui devient un forum sur l’intégration en emploi. Le nouveau ministre de l’Immigration, David Heurtel, a également retiré le mandat à la Commission des droits de la personne et de la jeunesse (CDPDJ), qui devait chapeauter les travaux.
