Eight victims from the Peel region lost about $780,000, Peel police said Friday. The investigation started in July, when a victim told police they paid large amounts of money to an organization called Afghan Refugee Relief, or AAR, to help sponsor family members wanting to immigrate to Canada.
CBC News – 120 People Waiting for Conversation Partners to Improve Their English
If you have a spare hour or two a week, the K-W Multicultural Centre could use some help; their conversational English program is in desperate need of more volunteers. That surge is, in part, due to the influx of Syrian refugees to Waterloo region in the last two years. Approximately a third of the people looking for language partners speak Arabic, but the other two-thirds are quite diverse.
