Canada is opposed to Israel’s plan to deport or imprison thousands of African asylum seekers and has officially registered its concerns. A majority of the 37,000 citizens of Sudan and Eritrea living in Israel are being ordered out of the country beginning next month. The Israel government has started distributing notices advising asylum seekers they have 60 days to leave for a “safe” African country with the help of a plane ticket and a few thousand dollars. If they don’t go voluntarily, they face indefinite imprisonment.

Maj.-Gen. Maung Maung Soe is being targeted for sanctions under the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act due to his role in the brutal security crackdown against the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, Freeland said. “What has been done to the Rohingya is ethnic cleansing,” the minister told CBC.
BBC News – Immigration Effort to Protect Dreamers Collapses in US Senate
The US Senate has failed to pass any of four proposals on immigration, including protections for young immigrants brought to the US illegally. Support for the most promising bipartisan bill failed after President Donald Trump called it a “total catastrophe” and threatened to veto it. The legislative collapse leaves the status of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (Daca) recipients in limbo. Mr Trump ended Daca and gave Congress until 5 March to find a solution.
