Forbes – As Trump and Congress Fail Dreamers, Canada Might Be an Option for Some

The future is uncertain for the so-called Dreamers who came to the United States as children, and many are looking for other options. Enter Canada. There is one program that could help at least some Dreamers out of their quandry. It is the Canadian Express Entry Federal Skilled Worker Program. In theory at least, within six months of applying a Dreamer with the right qualifications could be landed in Canada by applying through Express Entry.

The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada needs to do a better job of training its members to deal with sexual orientation and gender identity cases, a standing committee on citizenship and immigration in Ottawa heard Tuesday. “It is not uncommon for IRB members to ask why a lesbian has children or is married to a man,” Mike Tutthill, executive director of Winnipeg’s Rainbow Resource Centre, said in his presentation to the committee looking into the board’s appointment, training and complaint processes.

Some smaller communities in rural P.E.I. are struggling to manage the workload they’ve taken on as endorsing communities for the provincial nominee program. The deportation of Lucy Francineth Granados, an undocumented Guatemalan woman who has been living in Quebec for years, has been postponed.
