Canada Border Services Agency reports that approximately 4,150 Iranians cases are pending security screening under temporary business streams and another 975 cases are pending for permanent residency. The average security screening processing time for permanent residency applicants from Iran is 293 days, Marta Morgan, the deputy minister of immigration, told a Commons committee recently. When contacted by the Canadian Press to determine why these cases are taking so long, the department of Public Safety stated that the reasons behind Iranian processing delays are varied.

Daniel Kar-Yan Kwong will not be able to practise anywhere in Canada until after April 6, 2020, when he can reapply to be reinstated, according to the agreed statement of facts from the Law Society of British Columbia. Kwong stopped practising law in February 2017 after he told to the law society that he made misrepresentations to six different clients about the status of their immigration applications. In those cases, he told them documents had been filed when they hadn’t, and he improperly withdrew funds that had been placed in trust as payment.
