Montreal Gazette – Far-Right Groups Protest Refugee Arrivals in Montreal
Far-right protesters gathered Sunday in front of Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s offices at the corner of St-Antoine and Peel Sts. in downtown Montreal. About 200 members of the groups La Meute and Storm Alliance demonstrated on St-Antoine St. after exiting from the building at 1000 de La Gauchetière a little after 1 p.m., shouting slogans and uttering wolf howls. Thirty minutes later, counter-protesters arrived. The two groups stayed put for several hours on St. Antoine Street, between Mansfield and Peel, under police surveillance.
Global News – Fiancé of Edmonton Quadriplegic Woman with Newborn Granted Visa to Come to Canada
Kuen Tang, who is 39 and a quadriplegic, gave birth to their son Alexander Thor on June 5, but her fiancé Ren Dong Fang, also known as Jack, was not able to be by her side; Immigration Canada had denied him a temporary resident’s visa on several occasions. After Tang shared the couple’s story and her hardships being a quadriplegic and new mother with Global News, she said her fiancé got a call from immigration authorities and he was able to secure a visa to come to Canada.
Radio-Canada – L’immigration perd son ministère sous Doug Ford
Le président de l’Association algérienne du Grand Toronto, Housseyn Belaiouer, s’est dit « très surpris » en écoutant le dévoilement des ministres. Il s’inquiète de la restructuration des ministères qui, selon lui, rendra la cible en immigration francophone encore plus difficile à atteindre. Cette cible a été fixée à 5 % par la province il y a six ans, mais les immigrants francophones ne représentaient qu’environ 2 % du total des nouveaux arrivants l’an dernier.

Thousands of protesters across America, moved by accounts of children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, marched Saturday — in major cities and tiny towns — to demand President Donald Trump’s administration reunite the divided families. More than a dozen protests were organized across Canada, including in Toronto, Halifax, Ottawa and Vancouver. Alexandra Vaz, who organized a rally outside the American Consulate in Toronto, says she decided to act because as a mother of a young girl, the situation frustrated her.
Global News – Hundreds in Toronto Rally Against Trump’s ‘Zero-Tolerance’ Immigration Policy
Hundreds of people in Toronto joined the chorus of voices across North America in the Families Belong Together march. Rally organizers are hoping for action from the Trudeau government. “We have 22 demands for the Canadian government,” said rally co-organizer Andrea Vasquez Jimenez. “[They include] revoking the safe-country agreement that sees the U.S. as a safe country. We’re looking at ending immigration detention, ending indefinite detention, and so much more.”
