Global News – Canada Delays Deportation of Saudi Arabian Man After Letter from UN Human Rights Committee
The UN Human Rights Committee has requested that Canada stay the deportation of a man to Saudi Arabia. The man, who isn’t named to protect his safety, was scheduled to leave Montreal via a flight from Toronto on Wednesday. But instead, he was hospitalized for “stress-related” issues, his lawyer said. While he is still in Canada for now, lawyer Stephanie Valois, said the case is still up in the air.

P.E.I.’s Leader of the Opposition is calling for a review of the province’s Provincial Nominee Program following a recent investigation into the alleged use of four homes as “addresses of convenience” for fraudulent permanent residency applications by a Charlottetown couple. Progressive Conservative Leader James Aylward said the investigation is raising questions about the provincial government’s handling of the Island’s Provincial Nominee Program.

Members of several far-right, nationalist and anti-immigration groups are expected to attend the Worldwide Coalition Against Islam rally at Nathan Phillips Square outside City Hall on the anniversary of the Neo-Nazi march in Charlottesville. Noah Shack of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs says reports indicate it’s unlikely the rally will attract more than a small gathering of followers but he says hatred against Muslims or any other minority is an assault on Canada’s core values.
CBC News – What Will Happen to Saudi Students Enrolled in Canada?
Universities and colleges are scrambling to help thousands of international students following Saudi Arabia’s decision to pull those on Saudi-funded scholarships from Canadian schools. There were 8,310 Saudi students enrolled in Canadian post-secondary schools from January to May 2018, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s website. It appears they are all expected to leave.
