Le maire Gilles Lehouillier souhaite faire de Lévis « la terre d’accueil de l’immigration au Québec ». Pour y arriver, l’intégration des nouveaux arrivants doit se concrétiser bien au-delà du marché du travail. La Ville souhaite démontrer que les quelque 4000 personnes immigrantes qui habitent maintenant à Lévis sont beaucoup plus qu’une solution à la pénurie de la main-d’œuvre.

Près de 600 personnes majoritairement immigrantes sont en train d’être expulsées de l’un des derniers quartiers abordables d’Ottawa par une société immobilière. Ce pourrait être la plus grande campagne d’éviction en cours au pays. « Personne ne lève le petit doigt pour nous », déplore une résidante en colère.

CTV News – B.C. Woman Says Adopted Son’s Citizenship Not Being Processed, Stuck in Africa for a Month

In early August, Kimberlee Moran and her husband travelled to Ibadan, Nigeria to adopt their two-year-old son Ayo. The Abbotsford, B.C. mother said they used a “reputable adoption agency” and ensured all of their documents were in order before they submitted the second portion of his citizenship application. Kimberlee said they expected it to be a “fairly simple” process and they heard from other adoptive families this final step would take up to a week to process; however, she has been stuck in Africa for a month.

Globe and Mail – Some Syrian White Helmets Resettle in Canada, with More on the Way

Some of the famed White Helmets, a group of volunteer humanitarian workers the Canadian government helped rescue from war-torn Syria, have arrived for resettlement in Canada, and more will be on their way soon. The government declined to say exactly how many White Helmets have already arrived or the total number Canada plans to welcome, citing security concerns for the Syrian refugees.

CBC News – Former Border Agent Appeals Conviction for Sexual Assault, Extortion

Carie Dexter Willis, 58, was convicted of sexual assault, extortion and breach of trust for assaulting a woman between June 2003 and the following December. The woman, who Willis was supposed to be deporting, testified at Willis’s trial in the spring that he offered to bury her immigration file in exchange for sex. Willis was sentenced in August of this year to six years in prison. But Willis returned to court this week to seek an interim release. He is free on conditions while his appeal makes its way through the courts.

Global News – Oshawa Woman Accused of $200,000 Immigration Fraud Targeting Filipino Community

Maria Doble, 28, is charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of a counterfeit mark. Durham Region police allege she posed as an agent of the fictional Government Express Entry Compensation Program. They say she convinced people that she could help their family members move to Canada from the Philippines. Police say targeted individuals received text messages or emails telling them to drop off money. Police are urging anyone with information to get in touch.
