Le nouveau système de recrutement des immigrants « Arrima » fait fureur. Depuis sa création il y a six mois, plus de 90 000 personnes y ont soumis leur déclaration d’intérêt, dont 1124 la semaine dernière. Créé par les libéraux l’été dernier, le système de déclaration d’intérêt prend la forme d’une banque de candidats dans laquelle le gouvernement pourra piger en fonction de ses besoins de main-d’oeuvre.
Toronto Star – Security Clearance Backlog Significantly Reduced, Border Agency Says
Canada has significantly reduced the number of asylum seekers awaiting security clearances after facing a massive backlog in the wake of a surge of so-called irregular migrants crossing from the United States in the last two years. According to Canada Border Services Agency, as of Jan. 31, there were 2,647 refugee cases still awaiting security screening results, down from a peak of 11,745 last February.
CBC News – Windsor Under-Utilizing Immigration Programs That Could Help Fill Employment Gaps
The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce spent an hour with Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Citizenship and Refugees outlining challenges companies are facing. Chamber President and CEO Rakesh Naidu led the roundtable discussion. Naidu said that the chamber was made aware of programs that could help fill some of the employment gaps in the area. “Some of the programs have not been leveraged fully here, so that’s good for us to know,” said Naidu, citing specifically the Global Skills Strategy program.

Lifeline Syria has pledged $100,000 to help Syrian newcomers obtain the credentials they need to revive their stalled careers in Canada through interest-free loans. The grassroots charity hopes to roll the money from the Lifeline Syria Fund into a $400,000 fund for Windmill Microlending’s refugee loan program through matched donations by private donors and foundations.
Windsor Star – Immigration Minister Ahmad Hussen Sings Praises of Private Refugee Sponsorship
Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Ahmed Hussen came to Windsor Wednesday to celebrate the four decades of success of the country’s private refugee sponsorship program. Hussen addressed about 200 people at an event at the University of Windsor School of Creative Arts Concert Hall in the former Armouries. The event was organized by the Muslim Law Association of Windsor, the Black Law Students’ Association and the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers Windsor Chapter.
