National Post – Bill Blair Talking with U.S. About Ways to Close Loophole in Border Agreement to Stop ‘Irregular’ Crossing

“There has been some discussion about how we might apply the agreement to those who present themselves at a place other than the border where there’s clear evidence that they’ve come from the United States” Blair told The Canadian Press Friday. “There are ways, we believe, that we could apply the agreement more broadly to those people and therefore disincentivize them from crossing irregularly.”

CTV News – ‘Hatred Has Consequences’: Immigration Minister Says Online Hate Fuels Racist Attacks

Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen says hateful comments online feed a narrative that can lead to violent attacks such as Friday’s shooting at two New Zealand mosques. The shooting left 49 dead. Less than 24 hours later, some users on the Facebook page “Yellow Vests Canada” were writing comments calling for violence against Muslims and immigrants. In a series of comments posted under an article about migrants allegedly throwing rocks at a woman, members of the group threatened violence against the immigrants allegedly involved.

Pew Research Center – Around the World, More Say Immigrants Are a Strength Than a Burden

In 10 of the countries surveyed, majorities view immigrants as a strength rather than a burden. Among them are some of the largest migrant receiving countries in the world: the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Canada and Australia (each hosting more than 7 million immigrants in 2017). The majority in Canada also say immigrants are not more to blame for crime than other groups and do not increase the risk of terrorism in the host country.
