The research project involving 290 irregular migrants also found few turned to human smugglers to reach the border, a sign of Canada’s orderly border management — and a vindication of Ottawa’s response to the border crisis that saw 50,000 asylum seekers enter the country through land crossings over the past two years, says the joint report by the University of Toronto and York University.

London Free Press – Campaign Aims to Bridge Gap Between Landlords and Two Immigrant Groups
As part of the initiative, a first of its kind in the city, several housing companies across London will receive educational packages to help landlords and superintendents communicate with immigrants from the Buthanese Nepali and Latin American communities and ease tension that cultural differences can create. The packages, by Luso Community Services, include brochures, videos and even a non-verbal communication book that includes images and names of common household appliances to facilitate communication with people who don’t speak English.

Walsh-McGuire said many businesses are having problems recruiting people. “It’s an ongoing challenge,” she said.
