ICI Toronto – L’Ontario demande à Ottawa de doubler le nombre d’immigrants économiques

Le gouvernement de Doug Ford voudrait qu’Ottawa accepte deux fois plus d’immigrants d’ici deux ans en vertu du Programme ontarien des candidats à l’immigration, qui cible notamment les travailleurs et les entrepreneurs étrangers. Cette année, 7000 immigrants se sont établis en Ontario en vertu du Programme. Le ministre ontarien du Développement économique Vic Fedeli voudrait qu’Ottawa hausse ce ratio à 13 000 dans deux ans, citant le besoin en main-d’oeuvre des employeurs de la province.

CBC News – Immigration Minister Says Canada Is Playing a ‘Truly Transformational’ Role in Private Sponsorship of Refugees

Mendicino is in Geneva to take part in the inaugural World Refugee Forum that brings together thousands of political leaders, refugee advocates and refugee leaders to discuss ways to deal with the global migration crisis. Mendicino, who was named minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship on Nov. 20, said Canada is sharing its “depth of experience” in the private sponsorship program, which has successfully brought 320,000 newcomers to the country who were fleeing conflict, disaster or persecution.

Tuesday in Charlottetown 70 people from 11 countries took the oath of Canadian citizenship — the final legal step to becoming a citizen. “I’m the happiest person, because I’ve been waiting for this day for a very long time so today let me say this is the best Christmas gift I’ve ever had in my life,” said Mogbonjubola Olanipekun, who moved to P.E.I. from Nigeria six years ago.

Confrontées à un labyrinthe bureaucratique, elles sont plusieurs infirmières francophones, arrivées au Nouveau-Brunswick par le programme des candidats de la province, à avoir déménagé au Québec en raison des nombreuses barrières à la reconnaissance de leurs acquis. Une saignée dans un système de santé déjà en crise.

Toronto Star – Ontario Asks Ottawa to Double Number of Economic Immigrants

Economic development minister Vic Fedeli says an expansion of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program would respond to the labour-market needs of the province’s employers. Fedeli made the request in a letter to Marco Mendicino, the new federal minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship. In the letter, Fedeli asks that the number of immigrants accepted under the program be increased from about 7,000 this year to 13,300 in two years.

CBC News – ‘Thank God We Are Here, We Are Safe’: Syrian Refugee Family Become Canadian Citizens

Four years after arriving in B.C. as Syrian refugees, a Burnaby family is now officially Canadian, after taking an oath of citizenship last week. “When we landed here we didn’t know where we are — we just landed somewhere after a 13 hour flight,” said Vicken Majarian. “Now we know the country very well, we know the culture — it’s a very multicultural country and we are trying to keep our culture plus the Canadian one. We were Syrian-Armenians, now [we’ve] become Canadian-Armenians.”
