Global News – 3 Arrested in Year-Long Labour-Trafficking Investigation: London Police

The investigation was carried out by the London Police Service’s human-trafficking unit and began after officers say information was sent to police in September 2018. According to police, the information concerned three Londoners who reportedly operated a recruitment business to match migrant workers with local employers. The three people worked at the business, called Bethesda Agricultural Enterprises Inc., between 2015 and 2017, police say.

ICI Alberta – Des immigrants partagent des recettes de leur pays d’origine sur Internet 21 décembre

L’association calgarienne The Immigration Education Society (TIES) publie sur son site internet et sur sa chaîne YouTube, des vidéos dans lesquelles des immigrants cuisinent des spécialités de leur pays d’origine. Ce projet a été lancé l’an dernier. Jusqu’à maintenant, 13 recettes ont été mises en ligne. Des spécialités russe, asiatique, grecque ou encore de Syrie et même du Bhoutan comptent parmi les recettes proposées. Il y en a pour tous les goûts : du houmous au taboulé, en passant par le filet mignon et les smoothies.

Global News – Canadians’ Views on Racism Unchanged, Despite ‘Difficult’ Conversations in 2019: Poll

Racism often captured headlines and took up space in public discourse in 2019 — but a new poll shows those discussions didn’t necessarily change Canadians’ opinions. An Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Global News found 49 per cent of Canadians don’t think racism is a serious problem in the country, while 43 per cent do. Those numbers are similar to April findings, when 46 per cent said racism was a serious problem.

CBC News – Chatham-Kent Looking to Bring Skilled Immigrant Workers to Town Under New Pilot Program

Chatham-Kent is going to try something new to find skilled workers as part of a provincial pilot project which helps foreign workers become permanent residents. The two year pilot project, announced Thursday, will bring 150 skilled workers to three rural communities: Chatham-Kent, Belleville and Cornwall, Ont. The program — called a Regional Immigration Pilot —matches skilled immigrants to employers in rural communities. It will run from January 2020 to December 2022, bringing 50 individuals to each of the three locations.

Des groupes contestant la loi québécoise sur la laïcité ont indiqué mercredi avoir demandé à la Cour suprême du Canada de se pencher sur la récente décision de la Cour d’appel du Québec. Les plaignants de l’affaire très médiatisée ont précisé mercredi qu’ils avaient envoyé une correspondance officielle au plus haut tribunal du pays.
